Like the salad but is expensive! Ordered veggie tacos 🌮 with side salad which is 14$+2$ tips😮 The dressing on salad was amazing 😉 nothing special other wise, Would go for taco truck for less price..but the park is nice around there very calm!
I got there at 11:55am on a day with nice weather and almost every table outside was already taken. Luckily, people came and went quickly and we found a nice table shortly after arriving. I ordered Coxinhas and she had Jerk Chicken. I expected this to be a Brazilian restaurant and while the owner is Brazilian, it turns out that the menu is not very Brazilian at all (except for a couple of dishes).
Amazing service & fantastic Brazilian cuisine. The owner is always so friendly.
Great food at a more than fair price in a great location. Very nice staff too.
Great food in a hidden place
Consistently good food. Friendly owner.
Loved the food; great setting.
Yummy food! Great staff, homie feel, big portions, and they also super fast. I will be back!
Tried this place already with a friend and I am addicted ever since. I love the fantastic character and fresh food and drinks. Highly recommended.
Very cute restaurant with good, tasty food! It's a cool, hidden gem in Oakland.
The only downside to this restaurant is the limited hours. This place is great. Easily some of the best customer service I've received if that matters to you. The food is wonderful and they give you big servings. I'm a big fan of their jerk chicken. Easily my favorite restaurant close to my office. They never disappoint.
Fantastic restaurant in a beautiful setting (inside Preservation Park full of restored Victorian houses, trees, and a water fountain). On warm days try to get a table outside to enjoy the scenery. The Jerk chicken plate is easily the best dish $12. It comes with salad and rice with gravy (really good) or you can get mashed potato with gravy ( also really good). Sometimes they have it with baked potato and stir fried veggies - not to be missed when available. And here's a great tip, ask for extra Cilantro sauce and pour it all over the chicken - super delicious. I would give it 6 stars if I could. The owner runs the cashier and is very friendly. Food is served very quickly, usually within 5 minutes and please bus your own table afterwards. Easily one of the best places in Oakland for lunch but come early or the line gets long and there may not be enough seats.
Est lynch in the town. A little pricey but still worth it
Rio is a hidden gem in Oakland preservation park in downtown. Reasonable prices for good potions of home made Brazilian food. The coxhinas croquettes are my favorite.
Solid spot for lunch. Sandwiches, salads, and delicious Brazilian food. Lovely outdoor seating overlooking the fountain in historic Preservation Park.
The best coxinhas and jerk chickens. I tried coxinhas in Brazil and found these to be the best!!
Food is amazing and very reasonably priced.
We had business dinner here and had a fabulous experience! Service was amazing. 3 of us got the beef, all different cuts, 1 had fish, and 1 had pasta. We also split some salad and appetizer-sized pasta before our entrees. I'd love to go back with my husband and also try the cafe at some point.
They are open during Covid-19. They pack their food nicely and it's just as delicious as always. Please support them if you can. This is one Oakland gem I don't want to go under due to the pandemic
Have always loved this place. Never disappointed with the service or cuisine. My only gripe is that it's not open for breakfast, brunch, dinner, supper, or midnight snack...only lunch. Ohh well...
Rio California is an authentic Brazilian restaurant you can see in the Oakland area. The service staffs were nice and very welcoming! I would certainly recommend this place if you're looking for Brazilian cuisine.
I had a chicken dish with lemon butter rosemary sauce. It was good and filling.
I think I swallowed the whole plate in 2 mins.
We occasionally dine in the cafe as the restaurant is crazy expensive and not worth the price. Cafe is OK, good food and a lovely informal spot. But even so, the prices are a bit high for what you get. It's like paying a surcharge for being in a chic space.
Very good and friendly service. Very good food... Jerk Chicken...Very Yummy!
Great food. I especially like the jerk chicken. My only suggestion would be to reduce the portion size.
AMAZING. The owner takes such pride in his service and food. The food is always fresh and delicious and the location just can’t be beat. Such a fantastic out-of-the-way spot to have a peaceful meal.
Fast service and good portions of yummy food for a reasonable price
This place is flawless every time. Consistently good, unique food. Great value. Very friendly staff that all hail from Brazil. Great scenery and an overall authentic, Old Oakland experience.
Amazing! As always. I've never had a bad meal here. Amazing price, great food, friendly staff. I just hope nobody reads this review so the place doesn't get over crowded.
Nice location and very good food!
This place gives great service and delicious meals. One of my favourite restaurants in town. The food served rapidly and the prices are reasonable. I recommend this place.
Great Brazilian food at a cozy restaurant - only opened during lunch on week days.
Jerk chicken is the best food, ever, period.
Delicious...I had the chicken skewer, rice and salad. My friend had the chicken croquet (phenomenal). I'll definitely be back.
Rio is definitely in my lunch rotation. I only go here tho if I missed breakfast or will have a long evening at work because they give you a lot of food. They only have a few options to choose from but that I think is what makes this place work. They are efficient and the food taste good because they focus on a limited menu. The owner is very friendly too but sometimes he can make you feel rushed as you are trying decide from the 8 or so items to choose from the menu.
I dine in this restaurant many times a year! This is my favorite place to eat. I visit this place regularly. The cooking is very tasty, the workers are helpful and the prices are good. I enjoy eating in this restaurant for a tasty supper.
Fast, reasonable, and good food.
Loved the croquettes and jerk chicken.
My cohorts and I have been talking about coming here and I was sad that I wasn't able to go with them. So they agreed to go here again 2 days later. So here we are on a nice semi-sunny day. Behind the counter stood who I believe to be the owner. Nice guy shouting the orders to the kitchen right behind him as we order. Very friendly guy chatting with us as we decided what to order and pointed out the various specials. We sat outside and was brought utensils and napkins. I got the grilled talipia on a bed of salad, which was brought out to our table. The food was good and fresh. I really loved the cilantro dressing that was put on the salad. Even though we were only a few blocks away from the office, it was nice to get away. The outdoor patio is nice and pleasant and you can't even here the freeway because of the all the greenery. Service is quick, food good, great view .
Awesome spot to buy something when in a rush. The customer service is swift, prices are convenient, excellent vibes. Highly recommended
Beautiful place and great food. Big portions and super fresh salads. Everything is good here. Friendly owner.
They serve large dishes and for affordable rates. very nice staff members. Fantastic work.
Nice cafe. They serve Brazilian dishes here. I tried the Chicken Croquettes with salad. Very nice
Came in for the pesto portobello bowl (which I would definitely recommend) and ended up waiting for the next batch of mushroom mix. To my surprise I was told the bowl was on the house due to the wait. I would have been fine either way but the extra mile is what drove me to write this review.
I have been eating here for years, and the food is the absolute best around Oakland. A small Brazilian restaurant inside half of an old Victorian house in Preservation Park, Oakland. The main dish that lured me to this place was the Jerk Chicken. I comes with white rice and a decent amount of salad with a creamy cilantro dressing. I like to get mine with a side of beans too.The chicken is tender and juicy with all the delicious flavors and spices in the jerk marinade. Those who don't like anything even a little spicy, probably won't like this however. I'll quickly add that the (chicken)Croquettes are amazing as well, and should also be considered as an alternative first offering to those trying this place for the first time. The price for an average plate will run you between $10-$12, which isn't bad for 5 star in downtown Oakland. And last, the portions are big, so bring your appetite, or expect to take home some leftovers.
They serve big portions and for affordable pricing. very nice employees. Fantastic work.
An absolute gem. The owner works the counter and will help you decide what to get. Everything I've had is delicious. Because they're only open for lunch on weekdays, it's an amazing treat for locals.
They've probably been here awhile, but the staff seemed to have a little trouble handling the lunch crowd. Although I ordered early, I had to wait as nearly 10 people placed and received their order. The menu didn't distinguish between salads or sandwiches, so how was I to know that my order was one of those that would take "a little longer" because it was a sandwich?
The owner is always very friendly and warm. Their Jamaican jerk chicken seems more steamed than grilled, but it's still pretty tasty. I noticed a lot of the females get the Croquettes for lunch. The location is unique and pretty because it's located in the Old Oakland Preservation Park which has a Victorian feel to it. There's also an outdoor patio. Nice place for a Friday lunch.
